Australia v India Test – Women : Australia Women win by 10 wickets

Alyssa Healy Reflects on Test Cricket and Future of Australia After Trophy Win

Australian captain Alyssa Healy shared an emotional message after collecting the trophy, praising the next generation of players and expressing her love for Test cricket.

Speaking after the victory, Healy revealed a light-hearted moment from the dressing room that highlighted the excitement among the younger players.

“I just walked into the changeroom and Lucy Hamilton said, ‘I think Test cricket is my new favourite format!’,” Healy said.

She added that Test matches give players the chance to truly showcase their skills, something that is often limited in shorter formats.

“The white ball doesn’t always allow us to build plans over time. In Test cricket you can set up a batter, build an innings and really challenge yourself. Long live Test cricket — hopefully we continue to see more of it.”

Emotional Moment for Healy

Healy also admitted the moment carried extra emotion as she realized it might be her last time celebrating in the team dressing room.

“Honestly it hit me just before that I don’t get to walk back into that change room again and be around the girls,” she said.

“I’m going to enjoy the next bit and sing the team song one last time. But I’m genuinely excited to watch this group move forward. They’re an amazing group of people and I think they’re going to achieve some great things.”

In typical Healy fashion, she added a humorous note about possibly becoming a “bitter ex-player” offering advice from the sidelines.

“I might turn into that bitter ex-player and tell them how to do things better… just kidding everyone!”

Backing the Next Generation

When asked whether she was tempted to open the batting, Healy joked about protecting her batting average before explaining that she wanted to give younger players their opportunity.

“I’ve got to protect my average of 20,” she laughed.

“But we’re watching the future of Australian cricket walk out there and open the innings. I didn’t want to get in the way of that. I’ve had my time in the sun — now it’s time for the next generation to show what they can do.”
