Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals, Eliminator, Indian Premier League 2026

Published on

Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 campaign appeared to be slipping away just a few matches ago. After suffering three consecutive defeats, stand-in captain Riyan Parag openly questioned the team’s playoff credentials, admitting that consistent poor performances would make it difficult to remain in the top-four race. At that stage, the Royals were placed sixth on the points table and looked in danger of missing the playoffs entirely.

However, RR managed to revive their season with two crucial victories against lower-ranked teams at the perfect time. Despite securing a playoff berth, Rajasthan Royals still enter the Eliminator with pressure mounting around their recent inconsistency. History is also not entirely on their side, as only one team in IPL history has gone on to win the tournament after playing in the Eliminator.

Interestingly, that team was Sunrisers Hyderabad, who lifted the IPL trophy in 2016. As SRH prepare to face RR in the IPL 2026 Eliminator, they will hope history can repeat itself once again. Hyderabad have shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season, particularly with their explosive batting lineup, but inconsistency has hurt them during crucial moments. Their heavy defeat against Gujarat Titans, where they were bowled out for just 86 runs, proved costly and ultimately denied them a top-two finish because of net run rate.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will also take confidence from their dominant head-to-head record against Rajasthan Royals. Since 2022, SRH have won six consecutive matches against RR, giving them a psychological edge heading into this knockout clash.

The IPL 2026 Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals will take place on May 27 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. With a place in Qualifier 2 at stake, fans can expect a high-intensity battle between two teams fighting to keep their title hopes alive.
